Websites for real estate, builders and designers

Property and design buyers look at projects, photographs, plans and proof of delivery. Here is what these websites need, and which details have to be accurate and visible.

People buying property, a building service or interior design make big, slow decisions. They look at many projects, and they are checking one thing above others: will this firm deliver what it shows? A website for real estate, construction, architecture or interior design works when it shows real projects clearly and makes it simple to ask for a visit or a conversation. This guide covers real estate agencies, developers, construction companies, architects and interior designers.

I have not built a site for a business like this for a client and do not claim to have. This is general advice.

What buyers look for

  1. Real projects with real photographs, locations, sizes and, for developers, status: ready, under construction or planned.
  2. Plans and details: floor plans, specifications, amenities.
  3. Location: a map, nearby landmarks, distance from major points.
  4. Proof of delivery: completed projects, years in business, who you have worked with, only where true.
  5. Price information, or how to get it. A clear starting price or a price-on-request statement is better than a vague one.
  6. A way to visit or talk: call, WhatsApp, a short form for a site visit or a callback.
  7. Approvals and registration, where the law requires them to be shown.

Details that must be accurate

Property and building services are regulated, and wrong information can mislead buyers. Real estate regulators in India require projects to be registered and, in many states, require the registration number to appear in advertising. Check your state regulator’s current rules for what must be shown and where. Other points:

  • Do not show a project as available if it is not.
  • Do not use computer-generated images without saying they are illustrations.
  • Keep prices, availability and possession dates current, or remove them.
  • Do not claim certifications, awards or affiliations you do not hold.

Pages that earn their place

  • Home: who you are, your strongest projects, how to enquire.
  • Projects, one page each: photographs, plans, specifications, status, location.
  • Completed work or portfolio.
  • Services, for builders and interior designers: what you do and how a project runs.
  • About, with the people and the history.
  • Process, for interior designers and architects: brief, design, approvals, execution, handover.
  • Contact, with a form for a callback or site visit.

For a large estate agency with many listings, a search of properties is a larger system: see below.

Listings and search are a different job

A site with hundreds of listings that change daily, with filters and a map, needs a database and a backend, usually fed from the listing source. That is a larger piece of work than a brochure site and it is separate from my packages. Many developers and agencies do not need it: a handful of featured projects with a clear route to ask about others serves most smaller firms. Frontend, backend and what your site needs explains the difference.

Photographs are the content, and the weight

Property and design sites are image-heavy. Keep a good, limited set of photographs per project and compress them properly, or the page will be slow on a phone. Images that load fast explains how. Use only photographs you have the right to use, and never another firm’s work.

Enquiries

Make the enquiry short and quick to answer. A buyer who leaves a number expects a call soon, so decide who replies and when. If enquiries are valuable, record them somewhere; see connecting enquiries to a CRM or sheet.

Size and cost

A firm with a few projects can fit in Essential at ₹19,999 for 20 to 30 pages, frontend only; a developer with many projects and sections may need Growth at ₹24,999 for 70 to 100 pages. The pricing page lists exactly what is included. Message or call Harman with what you build or sell and how many projects you want to show.
